Step 1: Gather with your team and follow normal procedures for picking up laptops. Before you begin choosing an Air Plane Model, you need to choose roles for the Web Quest. Each role has multiple responsibilities.
Role 1: Flyer: The flyer will be responsible for looking at the Science Buddies link during the research time. He or she will also
be responsible for flying all of the planes during the Fair Test. Lastly, this person will design and create a Science Fair
Project Board for display at the meeting to introduce each team's findings.
Role 2: Scribe: The scribe will be responsible for looking at the Science Stuff link during the research time. He or she will be
responsible for gathering all of the data during the Fair Test. Lastly, this person will design and create an electronic
presentation in which he or she will report on the Fair Test your team planned and implemented.
Role 3: Measurer/Plane Builder: The measurer/plane builder will look at the Science Bob link during the research time. He or she will attend the plane building seminars and will be responsible for making all of the measurements during the Fair
Test (you must be able to use a ruler and tape measure very well). Lastly, this person will create and present the
information orally by way of a video.
Role 4: Photographer: The photographer will be responsible for looking at the Science Made Simple link during the research
time. He or she will be responsible for taking photographs during the Fair Test and taking video for the Measurer if
needed. Lastly, this person will compile the photographs and other pictorial data into a slide show or video to present
the information gathered.
Look through the links below and have each team member choose a different airplane pattern. Once your pattern is chosen, fill in the Airplanes Finished Survey.

Step 2: Before you begin Step 2, download the Airplane Fair Test Checklist and review the Rubric to help guide your work. During this step you will meet with a team of experts based on the Role you have chosen in Step 1. Once you gather with your group, you will click on the link below that is assigned to you. You will use the Scientific Method Graphic Organizer to record the information you will need to refer to as you plan and conduct your fair test. Work with your expert group to fill in your Graphic Organizer using the website's information. When the teacher calls time, return to your team and compare the information you each have gathered. Add any information you need to your Graphic Organizer. When this is finished, make an appointment for a conference with the teacher by going to the edmodo library, clicking on the Airplane Web Quest folder and then clicking on the Airplane Conference Sign-Up Sheet. Type one team member's name in the space for the time and day you want to meet. You should sign up for the earliest time available.
Step 3: Since your team has to find the best airplane for students to use in the Science classroom, you now need to begin thinking about creating a fair test to help you make this decision. You will need to use your Scientific Method Graphic Organizers for this step. If you wish, you may check past fair tests in your lab notebook for help. You will also need to download and save the Airplane Log. Make sure you save the Log in a folder that you can find. Work together to plan your fair test by filling in each section of the Airplane Log (up to step 3). When this is finished you need to sign up for another conference using the Fair Test Conference Sign-Up Sheet in the edmodo library, Airplane Web Quest folder. You should sign up for the earliest time available.
Step 4: Conduct your fair test. The classroom is set up with one flight area. You must sign up for a Fair Test time on the Sign-Up Sheet when you conference with the teacher. When you conduct your test, be sure you follow the plan you created. In order for the test to be Fair, you may not change the plan as you go. Remember your assigned job and complete the tasks you are responsible for.
Step 5: Take the data you have collected and fill in the remainder of the Airplane Log. Draw conclusions about your data. Was your hypothesis correct. Go to the Airplane Fair Test Blog and tell about it.
Step 6: Now that your team has completed the Fair Test you developed, you need to begin working on your final products. When you chose your role for the Web Quest, you chose a final product. If you are the Flyer, your final product is a Science Fair Board. The final product for the Scribe is an electronic presentation of your Fair Test. The Measurer must create a video-taped oral presentation , with visual aids, of your Fair Test; and the Photographer must create a photo presentation or video to present your Fair Test. Each of these final products must include information about your Fair Test, a description of the test procedures and materials list, a reflection comparing your data with your hypothesis, and a statement about which Air Planes you recommend to the Committee for Science Education Reform. In the section below, the teacher has provided an assignment sheet and the links you will need to help you complete your final products.
